Prom Dresses That Flatter Your Figure

When choosing a prom dress, it’s best to focus on the styles that will flatter your particular figure.  Because no two figures are alike, don’t feel bad if the georgeous prom dress you love in a magazine doesn’t look quite as good on you.

All types of figures and body types can be flattered and enhanced with the right type of dresses. Women are worried about the various body parts that could be their weak points like the heavy bottoms, flabby arms, plus size, petite size, wide shoulders, unattractive legs, heavy bust line, small bust, thick waist and extremely thin figure. All these can be balanced out with right type of flattering dresses.

The Ballgown features a very full, shaped skirt of tulle, satin, or other bridal fabrics, and a fitted bodice. This style really flatters slim figures and those with wider hips. Short waisted figures can also benefit from this style by choosing a ballgown with an elongated bodice that opens into the full skirt.

Poufy ballgowns and floor-draping dresses can look overwhelming on your tiny frame. Instead, seek out short, sassy hemlines; anything between mid-calf and mid-knee are fabulous, flattering choices. If you have your heart set on a full-lengther, opt for a sleek body-hugging sheath.

How do you know what size to buy?

Size is actually a big problem for many women. The closer to your actual size you get the less likely you’ll need alterations. That said keep in mind that manufacturers sizes vary. You may be a size 10 normally, but that may be an 8 in some dresses and a 12 in others. So how do you know which to buy? Fortunately almost all dresses listed online will have a manufacturers sizing chart handy!! You can figure out your size by taking your bust, waist and hip measurements. Then match up your measurements with those on the chart and you’ll have your size!

Are you Thin and Tall?

Here’s a way to tell: Your body is straight and slender, has few or no curves, and your bust is average in size. Your height is 5′ 6″ or taller. If you meet these criteria, you’ll want to buy a prom dress style that adds curves, shows off your long legs, flows gracefully to reveal your slim silhouette, and adds fullness to your chest. Try on dresses with several different neckline styles including v-neck or an open neckline to see which looks best. Also, dare to try a dress with a cutout back. Some prom dress styles to consider are empire, sheath, ball gown, and a-line.

Often the main factor in choosing a prom dress is the price, so you start by looking for cheap plus size prom dresses. Now this is fine, but it is extremely important that the dress fits correctly, and although the dress may have been bought on sale, it doesn’t have to look like it cost any less than designer plus size evening wear. Inexpensive prom dresses don’t have to look cheap! To get the best prices, it is a good idea to search for your dress well before Prom Season begins.
