The field of finance refers to the concepts of time, money and risk and how they are interrelated. The term “finance” may thus incorporate any of the following: The study of money and other assets; The management and control of those assets.
Every businessperson knows how vital financial information is in evaluating business success. Yet many non-accountants are unable to interpret financial reports and use that information to enhance profitability.
Financial terms will have slightly different interpretations in different countries. So as a general rule for all non-financial business people, if in doubt, ask for an explanation from the person or organization responsible for producing the figures and using the terms - you may be the only one to ask, but you certainly will not be the only one wodering what it all means.
